Dinner with Ian Wright

I have never entered a newspaper competition and in March 2006 I did. It was Regis my French teacher from Alliance Francaise who urged us to enter the NSTP/French Embassy competition becoz the first prices are 2 tickets to Paris and 2nd price are tickets to Mauritius. I was looking forward to those tickets to Paris for my Fall sojourn to Europe.

Unfortunately today I found out that someone else won the tickets to Paris ):

Luckily, to soften the blow.. last Friday my younger sister called excitedly to invite me to join her win for Dinner with Ian Wright in Singapore. Obviously she entered the Travel & Discovery Channel competition and won two tickets to include return flights to Singapore, Hotel and Dinner with Ian Wright. Oh well.. I have that to look for eventhough..err. I was not so keen on going to Singapore :) [hehehe John .. I am wearing my flame suit :P] So I guess Singapore here we come next week. I guess I have to take 2 days of leave now...

No need for the asbestos suit. ;) F. noticed your post, and has asked me to ask you if you'd like to meet up for lunch or dinner when you come down here. We'd be happy to meet you and your sister.

Hi John,

I am at Changi Airport :) Flying off back to Malaysia now .. Ian had to postponed his dinner from last nite to tonite, so I took a late flight out on MAS @ 11PM (which I am walking toward Gate F32 now for my flight :) instead of SQ.

I did had a chance to go thru half of the dinner err.. Ian's fav was Potato & Green Pea Indian Salad, Thai noodle soup and guess what Fish & Chips!! I cudn't wait for the Sirloin Beef and Dessert & Coffee but did had a chance to chat before dinner with Ian and took pics with him and most importantly he asked for my contact no. I am gonna ask him to do a segment with my turtles in Terengganu. He is coming to KL in 3 weeks time so .. there's a world gourmet summit and Anthony Bordain, Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson, Alain Ducasse and a few others will be in KL as well. I think he might be on the same boat.

Neeway it was trip to Singapore was fun and Ian is extremely FUN :)

My flight is in about 45 minutes. Err.. I did had a chance to wander to Little India and Arab Street today.. I think Arab Street with the very quaint mosque is really nice. We stayed at Royal Plaza Hotel and had dinner tonite across the street at Grand Hyatt.. Orchard Road have similar ambiance to Star Hill/Bukit Bintang area and Champ d'Alysee in Paris.

Salaam to F and selamat malam. I am off to catch my plane. I've got to be in Terengganu bright and early tomorrow morning!

Wassalam :)

Salaam.

F. & I are sorry we missed you (yet again ;) ), although we're happy you had a good time with Ian. Both of us tried numerous times to get ahold of you on Monday, but had problems all day long in getting a message through to your hand phone. I was finally able to leave a voice message; did you get it?

Also glad you got to eat at Straits Kitchen. It and Cafe Vienna at the Royal Plaza, where you stayed, are the only two halal restaurants in all the major hotels here. F's family and I go there often for major family dinners (about 2-3 times a year). F had suggested we take you to Cafe Vienna if we could meet up with you two for dinner.

Masjid Sultan is "very quaint"?!?!!! LOL! I pray there often; in fact, I was there just last week. Also, my ustaz is one of the imams there.

I will send your salaam to F. She would very much like to go up to KL in June (along with her parents and her sister's family), but I'm not sure my work schedule will allow it. We'll see, insha'allah.

BTW, giving out your contact number to Ian, eh? To show off turtles? Or to start a new romance? ;)

Salaam John,

From beautiful Terengganu my adopted States :) I am off again to KL in a few minutes.

Hehehe.. Ian is err.. very short LOL and I told him so! Hehehe like I am so tall! hahaha

Neeway.. contact no is seriously for my turtle :) and showing off beautiful Terengganu thing.. since he is a producer for his show..he said he will be in KL in May..who knows maybe he'll like to do a segment on it.

I am not interested really to start things with a non-muslim.. too much work and too much headaches! :) anyway I prefer someone on the taller side hehehe unless there's something intrinsic that I really like ;) more like characteristics that I admire..

Ian definitely not my type hahaha I have never been interested in celebrity. I much prefer business-minded quiet individual to compliment and to plan things with ;)

Cafe Vienna - yes BOTH my sister and I checked with the muslim staff that the food is halal so we ate :) I am a seafood lover but didn't bring my allergy medicine so.. I pay in terms of uncomfortability after dinner on 18 :) Seafood galore/dinner there was pretty good, as well we made new frens (from Msia hahaha). April 19 dinner was at the Grand Hyatt (I am assuming that's the Straits Kitchen)..ritzy nice affair..very classic Brit style affair.

Well hope we can meet one day soon. My regards to F. My phone was not on roaming so it was pretty useless when I was in Spore. As soon as I reached Msian soil, I got your message voice mail and last nite after checking in at Awana Kijal around dinner did try to call you and F, but since it didn't go thru, sent an sms instead to thank you for the invite :)

Well I gotta rush back to KL. I thot I wud be able to finish my report and send it out today but no go. So I better head out now.

Take care & wassalam,
ZaiZ

There was an article in the Sunday (Straits) Times about Ian's visit to Singapore yesterday; you and your sister weren't mentioned. The article was primarily about his travels, the foods he likes and dislikes ("durian smells like a sewer" ;) ), and so on.
